We welcome our new Year 6 Comet Chasers Observers. They are off to a flying start! Well done
It is quite small and not very bright, but can you spot it moving? (ignore the fact the frame changes brightness, that may be due to cloud)
Can you spot galaxies in the picture too?

Even though the asteroid pair Didymos and Dimorphos are now much further from earth we can still just about see them. The trail of material the spacecraft knocked off can still also be seen if you look carefully. It might be hard to see though - even big telescopes in great high up locations suffer from clouds sometimes!
These observations were take 5 days later, when the asteroid was even further away. Even though the weather was better, the asteroid and trail is still quite tricky to spot!
This is a lovely colour image of comet 29P taken on 12 January 2023 starting at 23:00. It uses B,V,R, filters to get the colour - each exposure was 60s. The telescope used was a 1m at Teide in the Canary Islands.
This comet is getting close to the Earth and getting quite bright - there's a chance it will be bright enough to see without a telescope in a couple of weeks time.

These observations are before and after the impact on 27th September 2022. Before impact the asteroid looks star-like, after impact it shows spikes and tails made of material ejected after the DART spacecraft impacted the asteroid moon Dimorphos. We're monitoring the length of the tails closely.
Can you spot a galaxy too? And what about a satellite?
This comet is really faint, and it was a bit cloudy, so it might be tough to spot....
Can you it is very bright? It was outbursting
